War in the North Announces a Release Date - 11.1.11

Official Press Release:

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Snowblind Studios today announce The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, the anticipated new video game based on the revered The Lord of the Rings novels and films, will launch in North America on November 1, 2011 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Games for Windows. The game’s Collector’s Edition, featuring behind-the-scenes looks at the game development, a specially crafted art book, digital download content and more, will launch the same day.

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, rated “M” for Mature, transports players to unknown lands, as yet unexplored in film, as they journey to the Northern lands of Middle-earth. Intertwining the characters and storyline of the novel and films,  the game takes place in parallel with the well-known Ring Bearer’s quest, but in the equally harsh and contested lands to the North, as the battle for Middle-earth’s survival rages.

Developed by Snowblind Studios, The Lord of the Rings: War in the North is an Action RPG featuring a unique 3-player co-op system. Gamers must battle, explore and journey together, balancing their strengths and weakness as a cohesive Fellowship of Human, Elf and Dwarf, or falter and perish in their journey. In every aspect of the game – combat, exploration, healing, even loot gathering – the Fellowship plays a vital role.

Official War in The North Trailer Out Now

Well here with yet more War in The North Love with the Officially Released Trailer out today. Warner Brothers and Snow Blind are on to a winner here with an amazing teaser seeing our Three Hero's battling Dark Forces in a Mini Fellowship including a Human Ranger, Dwarf Warrior and a Female Mage. I do not want to say too much but I am in love with the Full Platemail Clad Dwarf in all his glory, its a shame Gimli did not wear such Armour.

The new take on WITN is a winner and they have looked to have tied the story up pretty tight to coincide with other goings on in Middle Earth. Angandaur seeks to destroy the Northern Dwellers for Sauron, this is where you come in to help defend the Northern Territories. With Co-Op a massive part of it, players must join together to complete the Quest or perish doing so.

We can not wait for this title to hit shelves and will be doing a full comprehensive review as soon as the game is released in the Fall. Remember to go to www.WarInTheNorth.com to Pre-Order your copy.

Confirmed Voice Actors for War In The North

When War in The North (WITN) started looking for Voice Actors for the lead roles they knew there was some big shoes to fill, Ian Mckellen was great as Gandalf with a stern yet soothing, wise voice and they need something similar for the WITN Game so they looked to Tom Kane (left) better known for his take on Yoda in the animated series Star Wars - The Clone Wars where he did a great job, he is also known for his work with Marvel on various Animated ventures and a part in the massive Call of Duty - Black Ops.

You may also recognize Nolan North's voice from the Uncharted Series where he voiced Nathan Drake, in WITN he will bring life to the Human Ranger Eradan that makes up one third of the New Fellowship. Nolan also has many credits with Marvel playing Dead Pool and Game experience playing parts in Black Ops and Assassin's Creed.

Another confirmed Voice Actor is Yuri Lowenthal (right) playing Frodo Baggins. Somewhat of a Game Voice Veteran with many Games under his belt including Dragon Age 2, Fallout - New Vegas and the Prince of Persia which he has voiced the lead in seven outings. Yuri also has links to Anime with parts including the well known Afro Samurai, surprisingly he plays Ben Tennyson in the ever popular Ben Ten cartoons.

With such Voice Talent involved and the already visually stunning Graphics shown, mixed in with some stunning Music we at Middle Earth News think WITN will be sure fire hit.

Sideshow Collectibles Reveals War in the North Snow Troll

Hey Guys more War in the North goodies coming our way with a nice piece head lining the Fearsome Snow Troll. Not much is mentioned in Tolkien Lore about these Savage Brutes, though there is in Merp Lore (Middle Earth Role Playing) referred to as Ice Trolls mainly. Located in the Northern Wastes these Trolls bigger then their Kin and much Nastier (If possible) they do not turn into stone when daylight comes but huge slags of ice instead, so wary Travellers resting and using these seemingly innocent blocks of Ice for shelter may wake in the night to find a hungry Troll looming over them. It does look great with what looks like a Dwarf in a tricky position with the Troll grasping him by the waist.

Sideshow Collectibles are doing a full range mainly of the Fellowship but also including one of the Snow Trolls from War in the North, different looks of Arwen after her encounter with the Ring Wraiths and a celebrating Borromir just after the regaining of Osgiliath, seen in the Extended versions of the film, Borromir has a movable arm from downward into a victory pose, Gimli also looks impressive leaping over a Rock with Axe in hand.

From what we at Middle Earth News have seen the pieces are very well done, great attention to detail they are also a nice size adding a fantastic center piece to any Lord of the Rings fanatics collection. With many more pieces available including busts of the Balrog of Moria other Troll breeds and other well known characters from the series its well worth a look for yourself Here is a link to Sideshow's site so you can check out the Video yourself.
